the Finns, much like the Czechs and Americans, are victims of this bizarre format. the Finns and Czechs, with minimal talent pools to dip into, have become the patsies of the tournament thanks to Team Europe and NA, while the Americans didn't have the depth to make up for their U-23 losses.

The tie breaker rules are much more complex than that.

After goal differential is used to break the three way tie, head to head is used to determine the tie between the two teams with the better goal differentials.

That is only if two teams remain tied after the goal differential. They break up a 3 way tie with goal differential, which in most cases would not result in a two way tie unless two teams have the same goal differential, then it would go down to head to head.

I honestly don't know why you even agreed to be the Finland blogger for the WC. You have spent more time talking about anything other than the team you were supposed to be covering. I really like Finland and was excited to see the extended coverage for the World Cup until I saw your name. I really wish they could have gotten someone who actually likes hockey to write about the Finnish team.

I buy that USA gets shafted because of all the U25s they lost, but Finland had Laine - so they didn't get screwed, they just don't have the luxury of beating up on Switzerland and Latvia.

No two way tie scenario effects the Finns however.

Wow sorry your free entertainment doesn't live up to your expectations. You're always free to get a job as a writer yourself and give 'er a try. I have some more creative suggestions, but I think I'll leave it at that.

If North America wins, they'll be 2-1 and so will the Swedes, both go on.

If North American loses, the Swedes are 3-1 and NA 1-2.

If Finland beats Russia, everyone is 1-2 besides Sweden and you have a three way tie.

But if Russia wins, Finland is done regardless.

I may be missing something but I don't see a way there can be a two way tie with Finland and another team.

Tanner, I apologize. You more than right, for at least once; about Team North America. They are so entertaining.

Tanner, your opinion on Hjalmarsson? I would argue that he has been Swedens 3rd best defender this tourney (prel games included) after EK and Hedman. Hes a proven winner and more then the shutdown D he gets credit for.

Well I think he's OK, I didn't see all their games, so you could be right.

But, it's extremely difficult to watch two or three games and rank players.

I think it's highly doubtful that he's as good as Hedman, OEL, Karlsson, Lindholm or Stralman. Then again, who is? 2 or 4 guys in the entire world?

I would obviously rank him worse then H,OEL and EK. Lindholm a bit too early in his career to tell, his ceiling could be at H/OEL level. Hjalmar and Stralman plays the same type of smart game in a #2/3 role very well. Stralman a bit more offense, Hjalmar more shutdown but both drives the play very well in all zones.

I know you wont like this, but if I where to put #47 in swedens lineup today i would sit OEL. Hes not been himself this tourney.
